Today is my baby girl's 1st birthday! Emma joined our family June 17, 2008 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. She was born at 8:35 pm and weighed 7 lbs 15oz. She gave us quite the scare when she came out. The cord was tight around her neck and she was a bit blue and not breathing. Normally I get to hold my babies right after they are born, but they whisked Emma right to the bassinet to work on her. I didn't even know if it was a boy or girl (we had one of each and wanted it to be a suprise) and I barely glimpsed her as they took her away. The nurse was checking her and nothing was happening, and then she yelled for NICU and all these people came running in the room. I still hadn't heard her cry and was so scared. I think I was in shock because I just sat there trying to understand what was happening and why Emma wasn't making a sound. You can see the bag they had to use on her to blow air into her lungs at the top of her head in the picture below. It seemed like forever until I heard her cries, and that's when Lance said it was a girl. I didn't care until then, I just wanted her to be okay, and thankfully she was!
This is Emma today and I love this baby! She is so fun and I am so glad she is a part of our family forever! Our family wouldn't be complete without her. Happy Birthday Emma! We love you!
"What are little girls made of? They're made of ribbons and butterfly kisses and wonder at Christmas and birthday wishes and a heap of giggles and wiggles and love; these are the things little girls are made of."
